About Us

Our Mission & Purpose

Cherokees of the West is a dedicated cultural community focused on preserving, promoting, and celebrating the rich heritage of the Cherokee people in the western regions. We are a non-political, non-profit Native American organization that welcomes both Cherokee and non-Cherokee citizens who share a passion for our culture, history, and traditions. Through education, storytelling, and artistic expression, we create opportunities to deepen our understanding of Cherokee identity while fostering an inclusive and engaged community.

Our Commitment

We believe in the power of cultural preservation to ensure that future generations inherit the wisdom, traditions, and language of the Cherokee people. As Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. stated, "If we don't teach our language, then in a generation we will have gaming, we'll have businesses, we'll sell car tags, we'll have a health care system, but we won't have people speaking our language." This message reflects our mission to uphold Cherokee heritage by providing educational initiatives, language programs, and cultural events. Whether you are interested in Cherokee history, traditional arts, or community engagement, we are here as a resource and gathering space.
